2011 AVCA ALL-REGION TEAMS
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Two Fredonia State volleyball players have been chosen to the 2011 AVCA New York All-Region team, the first time in program history two Blue Devils were honored in the same season.
Senior libero
Sarah Zureck (Lancaster, N.Y.) is the first three-time all-region player in program history. She was chosen after her sophomore and junior seasons. She was also made the 2010 AVCA All-American team last year, and is on the All-American honorable mention list again this year as she was in 2009.
She is joined by senior right side/opposite
Jennifer Newhouse (Amherst, N.Y.) on the 2011 all-region and All-Ameican honorable mention lists. For Newhouse, it is her third career post-season award -- all coming this season. Her first came when she, Zureck, senior setter
Brittany Lis, and junior middle hitter
Lindsey Olson were selected to the All-SUNYAC team last week.
Newhouse also earned honorable mention All-American status.
"Considering Fredonia State Volleyball has only had one Honorable Mention All-American in the history of the program, to have both Jenny and Sarah named this year make it a tremendous accomplishment and is also a testament to our team's success.
"Sarah is the only libero named to the New York All-Region team, which makes her the tops in her position among a strong group of other liberos in the region. (And) Jenny has improved so much over her career here so it is very rewarding to see it pay off with this recognition. Her patience, hard work, and dedication make this so well deserved.
"I am so proud of these two young ladies."
