ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State led from start to finish Friday in a 15-9 victory over Elmira in the next-to-last game of the season.
The Blue Devils broke on top 4-0, then used another four-goal run to turn back a comeback attempt by Elmira midway through the second half.
Karli Brinthaupt had two goals and
Amy Simon one goal and two assists during the four-goal run to start the game. Brinthaupt had two more and Simon one more during the second run which started with the Blue Devils clinging to a 9-7 lead.
Brinthaupt and Simon finished with five goals each, while Simon added three assists. Each player was also credited with a team-high four groundballs.
Marissa Cussins added two goals while
Megan Mietelski recorded four caused turnovers.
Casey Chiesa made 14 saves for the Blue Devils, who improved to 11-5 with one game left, 1 p.m. Saturday at Oswego. Three players had two goals each for Elmira, which fell to 5-10.
