FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Fredonia State cheerleading team will compete Saturday at the 2012 Universal Cheerleading Association national championship in Orlando, Fla.

The Blue Devils, coached by Katie Pucci-Schaefer, will perform their routine at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, the first time slot among of the 15 teams in All Girls Division II.

Two panels of judges will score each team's routine. One panel will focus on the cheer/sideline of the routine as they judge for practicality, incorporation, use of skills, use of signs or poms or megaphones, and overall cheer execution. The other panel will focus on the music portion of the routine; the judges will look for creative and difficult skills attempted, overall effect, crowd appeal, and entertainment value.

A perfect score is 100 points.

At least 50 percent of the semifinalists will advance to the finals. The actual number of finalists, and the order in which they will compete, will be determined at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Finals will begin shortly thereafter.

All the teams were required to submit a tape showing them leading crowds during the fall on their respective campuses. The judges awarded the Blue Devils and eight other teams with the maximum 15 points for their crowd entry tapes.

Semifinals and finals are being held at the Walt Disney World® Resort.
