FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State closed out its first semester with a 4-0 home loss Tuesday to Penn State.
Four different players had goals for the Nittany Lions (7-7-0), who are in their first season as an NCAA varsity program. They will make their full transitions to Division 1 status next year.
Outshot 50-18, the Blue Devils (5-8-0) had their best scoring chances in the second period, including a 2-on-1 rush resulting in a shot by
Matt Owczarczak (Buffalo). Penn State's Matthew Skoff made a sliding save, one of the 18 shots he stopped.

Mark Friesen (Calgary, Alberta) made 46 saves, including 22 in the first period.
Connor Varley, Casey Bailey, Jacob Friedman, and Curtis Loik had the Penn State goals. Bailey's goal came with four seconds left in the second period to give Penn State a 2-0 lead. Loik's goal was into an empty net with 31 seconds remaining.
