FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The State University of New York Athletic Conference released its first indoor track and field awards of the 2014-15 season. Fredonia senior Zakk Hess (Newark, N.Y./North Rose-Wolcott) is among the weekly winners.

Hess on Monday was chosen SUNYAC Male Track Athlete of the Week on the strength of his two distance runs earlier this month at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala..

He won the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:40.87 on Dec. 6. The previous night, he finished second in the 5,000 meters in 15:01.44. The runner who finished first was running unattached, hence, Hess was the first collegiate finisher in the 5K.

Both of Hess's times at Kent were collegiate bests. Nationally he is ranked fourth in the 3,000 meters and sixth in the 5,000 meters in Division III.
