GLASSBORO, N.J. -- Fredonia finished 16th of 44 full teams Saturday at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Atlantic Regional.
Fifth-year senior
Collin Mulcahy (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) finished 24th and sophomore
Ethan Francis (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk) was 28th in a field of 303 runners. They were eighth and 109th, respectively, at the 2015 Regional.
Fredonia's other senior,
Bobby Cooper (Macedon, N.Y./Gananda), was 112th, junior
Merlin Joseph Jr. (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) 114th, and sophomore
Cyd Scott (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) 140th to round out the scoring quintet.
Displacement runners were junior
Jack Erhard (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) and academic sophomore
Zak Kellerman (Depew, N.Y./Lancaster). In addition, freshman
Aidan Pollard (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) made Fredonia's Atlantic Regional contingent but did not run Saturday.
Mulcahy ran an even race, breaking out at 28th and moving up as close to 16th at the 2.8 kilometer mark. His final time for 8,000 meters was 25:05.2.
Francis was 24th at the first checkpoint, fell back to 45th at 2.8 kilometers, then rallied in the later parts to cross the line in 25:08.3.
Cooper -- 108th in last year's race -- lost 30 spots from the first checkpoint to the finish while Joseph Jr., Scott, and Erhard all made significant advances through the pack as the race progressed. Joseph Jr. was 187th in 2015.
