FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Saturday, January 28, will be National Girls and Women in Sports Day in the Steele Hall Fieldhouse.

Sponsored nationally for the past 31 years, NG&WSD will be celebrated at Fredonia for the seventh straight year in conjunction with athletic events being held on campus that day.

The activities will include a men's and women's swimming and diving meet at 1 p.m., a men's basketball game at 4 p.m., and a women's basketball game at 6 p.m. The swim & dive teams will take on teams from Brockport and Allegheny, while the basketball teams will meet Western New York and Lake Erie Cup rival Buffalo State. All three events will be held in Steele Hall.

A local girls basketball team will scrimmage during halftime of the women's game and a series of raffles -- with winning tickets to be drawn throughout both the men's and women's games -- will be held. Items up for raffle will include local and professional sports memorabilia and children's sporting goods. Raffle tickets will be sold at the event.

Admission to both basketball games is $5 for adults, $2 for students, free to SUNY Fredonia students with ID, and free to Blue Devil Booster Club members with passes. Guests will receive a free Fredonia Athletics National Girls & Women in Sports Day t-shirt until supplies are exhausted.
